Take IELTS on a computer! The Reading, Writing and Listening tests are on a computer, but the Speaking test is face-to-face discussion.
Learn MoreYou can choose to take IELTS on a computer for both the General Training and Academic tests. The test format, question types, time allocated to each test part and content is the same for both Computer-delivered IELTS and the IELTS Paper-based test. Your test day experience is a little different to that of the Paper-based test. If you choose to complete your IELTS test on a computer, you will do the Reading, Listening and Writing parts of the test using a computer. All answers will be typed on the screen. You will also be able to write notes on a notes sheet during the Listening test. The IELTS Speaking test remains the same, with a face-to-face interview with an examiner. The Speaking test will be completed either just before, or just after the Reading, Listening and Writing test. Taking IELTS on a computer has many benefits. For example, your results arrive a lot faster. With Computer-delivered IELTS your results will be available within 3 to 5 business days.
When you request a remark, your IELTS test will be remarked by an experienced senior IELTS examiner who are not aware of the original marks awarded for each part - Writing, Reading, Listening and Speaking. Your test centre is then notified of the remarked result and if the mark has changed, you will receive a new Test Report Form (TRF).
The request for a remark must be made within 6 weeks of the date shown on your Test Report Form (TRF). You can request a remark on the whole test or any part of it (Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking).
You must pay an enquiry fee, which is fully refunded if your band score changes. Contact your local test centre for more information about fees.
Your result will normally be available in 2 to 21 days, depending on several factors including the number of sections requested for remark. If you have not received a response after 28 days, please contact your test centre.
If you feel confident that you have done better than your score shows, applying for an EOR is one option for you. This is marked by a senior examiner who marks it independently from your first examiner. After this second assessment, your score either stays the same or is higher, depending on the senior examiner’s rating.
EOR requests and all IELTS test day matters are handled by your test centre. IDP responds to the EOR requests by using a team of senior examiners.
No. In each IELTS test, the examiner does not know your previous score or even if you have taken the test before.
There is a wide range of speaking questions in the IELTS Speaking test and they are often updated and changed. For test takers who have test dates close together, they may have a topic that is repeated, but the chances of this are low.
There is a large team of examiners for the IELTS Writing test who are given random writing scripts. The chance of having the same examiner again is quite low.
IELTS test centres have a large team of examiners that they use on test days. They are scheduled at different times.
All test centres have examiners who are trained and monitored in the same way, which means that you will have a standardised IELTS test wherever you go. There may be particular factors that are different, such as how close it is to your home or how familiar you are with the environment.
While you may feel that you have performed better or the same as in your previous IELTS test, your results can vary for a number of reasons. Sometimes, you may have a reading text or listening topic that is familiar to you. Perhaps you feel more comfortable with your speaking examiner or have even felt more stressed than you did previously. However, variations in test scores are usually small, but sometimes test takers have lose marks for mistakes that they are not aware of, such as spelling in the Listening test or not enough words in the Writing test.
This depends on your test centre and the schedule that the examiners have. You are allowed to be examined by the same examiner in your IELTS Speaking test and in some cases there may only be one examiner who is testing on that day.
After your IELTS Speaking test is finished, the examiner will not give you feedback on your performance. If you have a teacher or a tutor, you can ask for their feedback of your speaking, especially in the skills of fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy and pronunciation. You can ask your tutor for a mock IELTS Speaking test to see how you perform in test conditions.
It is up to you if you want to keep taking the IELTS test often, but also consider that you may need time to develop your English skills, especially if you are looking for a higher band score like 7.0.
Some test takers book more than one IELTS test close together because they may have a particular deadline that is important for them. However, it is good to look at your test score and see which skills you have done well in and which ones need more development. You can then design your study plan to give more attention to the areas where you need more improvement.
To improve your fluency, try to practice as much as you can. The more words you know, the less you have to search for words. Also, use connecting words to help you keep going. The only problem with accents is if it stops people from understanding you. Just try to make the sounds of English so you can be understood.
IELTS Progress Check is marked by official IELTS markers. Each mock test you purchase and complete comes with an official feedback report with indicative band sores to help assess and improve your English-language skills.
Check the Progress Check website for accurate prices of the Progress Check Academic practice test.
Practising sample tests will help you learn what is expected in each part of the test and is good test preparation in order to maximise the English skills you have. However, remember that to improve your English you need to use English in everyday contexts – speak English with your friends, write notes and email in English, read English newspapers, listen to English radio.
If you feel you need help with your English, you should also consider taking an English course.
In the IELTS Life Skills test, your results are given as a pass or fail mark.
There is no pass or fail in IELTS Academic or General Training test. Scores are graded on the 9-band system. Each educational institution or organisation sets its own level of IELTS scores to meet its individual requirements.
We post your test results to you as soon as they are released, which is 3 to 5 days for computer-delivered IELTS and 13 calendar days for paper-based IELTS. Some test centres will allow test takers to pick up their Test Report Form directly from the centre, so we recommend contacting them prior to the release of results to discuss this.
If you have been waiting on your IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) with your official result, but have not received it, we recommend contacting your test centre. In some rare circumstances, IELTS results can be delayed because of security and integrity reasons. If there are concerns about any matter associated with your test and if it is considered that malpractice may have occurred, you will be advised that your results have been withheld. In exceptional circumstances, it may be required that you need to re-sit one or more IELTS test parts.
In all situations where you might have concerns about your results, we recommend contacting your local test centre.
You can apply for a review of your band scores (called an Enquiry on Results) at your test centre within six weeks of the test date.

You can order more Test Report Forms within two years of sitting your IELTS Test. You can request up to 5 Test Report Forms from the test centre where you sat your IELTS Test. If the test centre where you took your test has closed we can still send a copy of your Test Report Form to any receiving organisation for the first two years after your test. If you have not done so, please check the test centre search to make sure that your centre has been closed.
To request a Test Report Form you will need to complete an application form for additional Test Report Forms. It is very important that you complete your family and given names exactly as they appear on your identification document. Submit the form by clicking the 'Submit' button at the end of the form. Include a scanned copy of the passport or identification document that you used when you sat the test (this is done after you click the submit button on the application form).
IELTS Progress Check is not a timed mock test. You can enter and exit the test at your own convenience. Although it is recommended you time your test to get as close to a true IELTS test experience.
Pencil is recommended for the IELTS Listening, Reading, and Writing tests. This is because tests are scanned and work best with pencil. It also means that you can easily erase and rewrite words. If you forget to bring a pencil, the test centre will provide one for you.
